A seemingly growing set of apps that pays you out in the ROX token for various simple daily activities, with withdrawals to NC Wallet providing added bonuses and daily compound interest
NATURE OF WORK AND PAYMENT
Robox started out as just a "tap daily to mine crypto" app, but has since expanded to a few new options with different activities. Search for them on the app stores as being provided by "RoboxOne OU" if you're not using the direct link above, as the search bars like to second-guess you and show the Roblox game instead. This definitely isn't that and has nothing to do with it!
Your main app is Robox Tap & Earn. With this one, you simply check in once every three hours and tap a button to start receiving some crypto (kinda like Pi Network). You may or may not be shown a typical mobile video ad when you start mining, seems about 50/50 for me.
The other ones all share the same general formula of having you check in once every three hours, but they all have their own little twists. The next one up is Robox Duck Tap, where you have to tap the screen a number of times to make Howard the Duck do his squats and build enough energy to get through the mining session.
Then you have Robox Fit Walk & Earn, where you charge the power for the three hour mining sessions with your steps (or just moving your hand or arm a slight bit, your choice). On the opposite end of the fitness scale is Robox Relax / Breathe & Earn, where you pick from one of about 10 breathing patterns for calm and concentration and whatnot then let it run as it builds up charge for its own three hour mining session.
Finally there's Robox VPN, a free VPN and proxy that pays you some token for surfing while using it. This is the only one I didn't install as I'm paranoid about putting VPNs on Android earning devices (lest they screw up one of the many other services that bans you for using them).
You can install and run all of these apps at the same time, each mining session is separate. However, they don't seem to pool your earnings together. ROX earnings stay in each individual app, and you have to get to at least 0.1 in each one to withdraw them to a wallet proper.
You can withdraw directly to any Solana wallet, but the prime option pushed here is the use of NC Wallet to receive your payments. This is a custodial wallet, but comes packed with some perks: a lot of fee-free trading options, and for the purposes of the Robox ROX you earn it provides 6% interest compounded daily on whatever you transfer over and hodl in it.
That's about it, you log in every three hours and perform whatever little task to get a trickle of crypto going. There are boosts you can purchase, but the economy of them is a little confusing - we'll dive more into that in the "problems" section later.
SITE HISTORY / LEGITIMACY
Robox is based in Estonia, was founded in 2022 and seems to be solely owned by a Viktor Tšaštšin who does not seem to have any business history that's available in English at least. But this appears to be part of a larger project called Robotina that seemed to have some environmental focus when Robox was launched in 2022/2023, but there seems to be almost no chatter about that at this point. Unless that's also not available in English. They have recent updates on LinkedIn that look legitimate but search me as to how these apps relate to that.
The Robotina company seems to be legitimate and has been around for several decades working in industrial controls and electronic vehicles, and incorporating blockchain technology in this somehow, but it's hard to pin down how the ROX token and these apps fit into everything.
INTERNATIONAL ACCESS
Wasn't able to find any formal list of countries - looks to just be a "check your local app store and see if it's there" deal. If you missed it above, look for "RoboxOne OU" as the provider on app stores as searches will typically annoyingly second-guess you and try to steer you to Roblox instead.
STARTING OUT
Just download and go, does not seem to be a KYC process of any sort, but you do need to either have a Solana wallet set up to receive the ROX token or set up a NC Wallet on your device (link to it provided in-app for all of these in the payment area).
At the 1x mining boost you get just for showing up, you can expect to mine about 1 ROX per month per app if you make most of your three-hour checkins.
PROBLEMS WITH ROBOX
The main mining app has some web login option now for PC browsers, but it doesn't seem to actually be working as of this writing; it seems like you may eventually be able to do your regular taps for that one by logging in here rather than having to use the mobile app.
A lot of reviews on the app stores seem to feel this whole thing is a scam because it's not an instant free pesos glitch, especially when they purchase boost packs and then end up not mining enough to recoup the cost. While that's a legitimate concern, I think the main failure here may be in the app developers not adequately communicating how all this is intended to work. First things first, you have to believe that the ROX token is going somewhere eventually and want to invest for the long haul to see eventual parabolic gainz. Then, you're really incentivized to move all your earned ROX to NC Wallet specifically and hodl it there long-term to get the 6% compounding interest on it. One other overlooked aspect is the referral program, which gives you the equivalent of 15% of your referral's mining activity apparently without a time limit. And then there's the fact that boosts can be paid for with Google Play credits instead of real cash; so with the proceeds of Google Opinion Rewards surveys, GPT site earnings, unwanted gift cards and such. I feel like they could better make clear this is meant to be a longer-term investment thing with all these interlocking parts rather than something you do to pay your monthly bills.
One last thing, I know I've seen in a push notification or something that there was a mention of your mining boost going up the more of the apps you install? But the apps don't seem to interface with each other in any way even if you're using a common Google login for all, so if this is an actual thing it's not apparent how it works.
FINAL VERDICT - Might Work For You
Robox is an odd one and hard to read. At the back of it seems to be a legitimate EU-based technology company that has been in business in advanced engineering since 1990, but it's hard to see how all these apps relate to its core products other than they're generally into blockchain technology. The guy specifically at the head of these apps also has no real background that can be readily looked up, at least in English. But there are no big security red flags with these apps, and they put much more work into this than would be necessary for some sort of scam or rugpull (continually releasing new apps with different features, adding the option to withdraw direct to any Solana wallet).
What this comes down to in the end is the long-term prospects of the ROX token, which is also a mystery. It had a spike to 9 cents USD not long after initial launch in 2019, and then another spike to about 4 cents in 2021 (maybe when these apps started coming out), but for most of its life it's been at about .001 to 1 cent somewhere. So at best this is kind of an unknown-term long shot shidcoin airdrop that you hope might moon in some years due to as-yet unforeseen developments. But it's also very low-time and low-effort to collect, the apps are tiny and simple, they're a way to get some productivity out of older underpowered Android devices at least. As always with these things, you never know where the surprise gems are going to come from, I mean no one thought Bitcoin was anything to waste your time with in 2010 and now look where it is.
